Product information "Aluminum Activator "
Aluminum Pretreatment - Aluminum Activator
A metallically pure surface is essential for successful electroplating.
Aluminum (Al) is a base metal (with a normal potential of -1.6 V) and forms a dense oxide layer within a short time.
a dense oxide layer within a short time. Reliable plating is impossible on an oxide layer.
In order to coat aluminum nevertheless, an intermediate layer, a so-called "zincate layer" is usually
is applied. The material can then be gold-plated, copper-plated or otherwise electroplated.
The aluminum activator works perfectly with pure aluminum, and with many Al alloys as well.
should be tested in advance.
Especially aluminum-silicon alloys do not work at all.
Please coat only with alkaline copper!
This product contains acid. However, you will receive a detailed guide so that you can work safely.
We offer here a solution with reduced viscosity, because this has many advantages.
The advantages are:
- the lower viscosity reduces the entrapment of the solution in porous casting molds (blistering of the subsequent coating)
- lower loss of chemicals (especially in unfavorable molds)
- faster deposition - higher safety of deposition on aluminum alloys containing magnesium and silicon.
Aluminiumpreparer: Now you can plate It!

Notes:
- The aluminium article should be dipped until a contiuous grey film appears.
- If left in the solution too long, the adhesion of the zinc film is reduced, leading to
blistering and in extreme cases, lifting of the plating.
- To strip the zincated layer, dip in Cleaner  for 10 minutes. Please note that once
the Cleaner has been used for stripping, it cannot be used for any other process.
