Decorative Black Rhodium Electrolyte for Dark Anthracite‑Gray Rhodium Coatings

Short Description

The Black Rhodium Electrolyte BMG‑088.2 is a ready-to-use electroplating solution for creating dark anthracite-gray, decorative rhodium coatings on conductive metal surfaces.
The solution operates at room temperature, reducing the need for additional heating and making it particularly user-friendly. The deposited layers are uniform, color-stable, and wear-resistant, making it ideal for decorative applications in jewelry, eyewear, accessories, and high-end metal components.

Applications

Black rhodium plating is used for:

  • Decorative coatings with a dark metallic effect

  • Surface finishing for jewelry and eyewear

  • Design and fashion components requiring a premium finish

  • Two-tone plating effects in combination with lighter metals

  • Applications requiring a strong, dark gray rhodium appearance

This process provides a consistent, anthracite-gray decorative finish with the typical durability of rhodium plating.

How Does Black Rhodium Work? (Simple Explanation)

Black rhodium plating is an electrolytic process:

  1. Surface Preparation: Thoroughly clean, degrease, and optionally activate the workpiece.

  2. Electroplating: Connect the part as the cathode (negative pole); use a suitable anode, such as platinum-coated titanium.

  3. Deposition: Applying direct current causes rhodium ions to reduce and form a dark, uniform rhodium layer.

  4. Finish: Rinse and dry the plated parts to reveal the even anthracite-gray surface.

The process is simple to handle and suitable for tank plating, brush plating, and pen plating.

Graphite Electrode Ø 6 mm (BMG‑010) Short Description The Graphite Electrode Ø 6 mm (BMG‑010) is a durable, chemically inert electrode rod made from high‑density fine‑grain graphite. Designed for use as an anode or electrode in electroplating processes, it is ideal for bath, pen, and pad plating applications where a clean, metal‑free current supply is essential.  Product Description This graphite electrode is manufactured from highly compressed fine‑grain graphite, which dissolves only slowly in electrolytes. Unlike metallic anodes, graphite does not shed contaminating metal particles, ensuring cleaner coatings and higher deposit quality.  The 6 mm diameter rod, with an approximate length of 95 mm, fits standard plating fixtures, holders, and pen plating tools, making it easy to integrate into various electroplating setups Typical Applications Electroplating processes (e.g., silver, gold, copper, black nickel, chrome, white bronze) Pen, bath, and pad plating Activation and pre‑treatment steps Counter‑electrode or anode use in a wide range of electrolytes Situations where metal contamination must be avoided Key Benefits Chemically inert: prevents unwanted metal ion contamination in the plating bath. Versatile: compatible with most electroplating chemistries and techniques.  Slow wear: dissolves gradually, extending service life. Affordable: cost‑effective solution for frequent use.  Easy to use: fits common plating holders and pen plating tools. Material & Dimensions Material: High‑density fine‑grain graphite Diameter: 6 mm Length: approx. 95 mm (other lengths may be available)  Practical Tips Ensure electrodes are clean and free of oils before use.  Replace electrodes periodically as they slowly dissolve during electroplating. Graphite’s mild warming effect can help stabilize bath temperature during plating. Conclusion The Graphite Electrode Ø 6 mm is an effective and reliable anode/electrode for a wide range of electroplating applications. Its inert behavior, broad compatibility, and metal‑free current delivery make it a solid choice for hobbyists, workshops, labs, and professional plating operations.

Darkener Solution for Black Ruthenium

Blackening Additive for Black Rhodium / Ruthenium BMG-090.2M Additive for intensifying dark ruthenium and black rhodium electroplated finishes Short Description The Blackening Additive BMG-090.2M is a specialized chemical additive designed for use in ruthenium or black rhodium electroplating baths to enhance and deepen the dark color tone of the deposited metal layer. By adding this additive in controlled amounts, the coating achieves a deeper, more uniform black or dark anthracite appearance, ideal for decorative applications, modern design surfaces, and high-contrast multilayer plating systems. Applications This blackening additive is used for: Deepening the black or dark gray color of ruthenium and black rhodium coatings Fine color adjustment of dark electroplated finishes Improving uniformity and depth of the deposited layer Creating intense decorative effects on jewelry and accessories Use in tank, brush, and pen/plug plating It allows precise control of the final color without changing the base electrolyte. How the Blackening Additive Works (Simple Explanation) Ruthenium and black rhodium baths produce coatings whose final color depends on bath chemistry and operating parameters. The blackening additive modifies the electrochemical deposition process when added in defined quantities, resulting in a darker and more intense metal finish: Prepare the base bath: Operate the ruthenium or black rhodium electrolyte according to specifications. Add the blackening additive: Introduce the additive at the recommended dosage. Electroplating: Plate as usual; the deposited layer appears darker and more uniform. Fine adjustment: The final shade can be precisely adjusted by dosage and process settings. Advantages of Blackening Additive BMG-090.2M Intense black and anthracite color tones Improved visual uniformity of dark coatings Enables precise color tuning Compatible with existing ruthenium and black rhodium electrolytes Suitable for tank, brush, and pen plating Easy integration into existing plating processes Technical Parameters PropertyValue / RangeProduct typeBlackening additiveIntended useRuthenium and black rhodium electrolytesFunctionColor depth and intensity enhancementApplication methodAdded directly to plating bathCompatibilityTank, brush, and pen/plug platingColor effectDeeper black / dark anthraciteDosageProcess- and bath-dependentStorageCool, dry, tightly closedSafety classificationChemical additive – handle with care Note: Optimal dosage depends on bath chemistry, temperature, and desired color depth. Preliminary testing is recommended. Application Notes Add the blackening additive gradually while ensuring proper bath agitation. Perform test runs to determine the ideal concentration for the desired shade. Avoid overdosing, as this may affect coating uniformity. Maintain stable plating parameters for consistent results. Anode sleeve fuzzy

Anode pad / tampon / anode sleeve / fuzzy sleeve / replacement fabric pad puffy from Betzmann Galvanik.    This puffy fabric pad / anode sleeve or also called tampon is absolutely recommended for all plating processes. Optimally suitable for all coatings and electrolytes.  The coating of larger areas is also quite fast with this pad.   The insertion hole is larger than the electrode and therefore it happens that the moist  anode pad slips off. Therefore, fix the pad on the electrode with a small rubber band.
