Chromplating - Chrome solution

Product information "Chromplating - Chrome solution"

Chromium Electrolyte BMG-106.3

Modern Chromium(III) electrolyte for the electroplating of metal surfaces

Short Description

The Chromium Electrolyte BMG-106.3 is a high-quality galvanic solution for decorative chromium plating of metal parts. It is suitable for hobby users, workshops, and professional applications alike.

The formulation is based on Chromium(III) and does not contain highly toxic Chromium(VI). This makes the electrolyte significantly more user-friendly and safer, while still producing very bright, uniform, and glossy chromium layers.

What is this chromium electrolyte used for?

The Chromium Electrolyte BMG-106.3 is used to electroplate metal surfaces in order to:

  • achieve a high-gloss, decorative surface finish

  • protect workpieces against corrosion and oxidation

  • enhance the appearance and durability of metal parts

Typical applications include:

  • automotive and motorcycle parts (trim, covers, fasteners)

  • metal handles, fittings, decorative and design components

  • restoration and repair work

  • model making, hobby projects, and small-scale production

How does chromium plating work? (simple explanation)

In electroplating, a very thin layer of chromium is deposited onto a metal surface using electrical current from a liquid solution (the electrolyte).

  1. The workpiece is thoroughly cleaned, degreased, and ideally polished

  2. The part is connected as the cathode and immersed in the chromium electrolyte

  3. When direct current is applied, chromium is deposited onto the surface

  4. A uniform, bright chromium coating is formed

Note:
For best results, chromium is typically deposited onto a nickel layer. A prior copper and nickel plating significantly improves adhesion, gloss, and corrosion resistance.

Advantages of Chromium Electrolyte BMG-106.3

  • modern Chromium(III) electrolyte (no Chromium(VI))

  • produces very bright, decorative chromium coatings

  • wide operating current density range

  • no heating required – operation at room temperature possible

  • suitable for tank plating, brush plating, and tamping / pen plating

  • uniform deposition even on complex geometries

  • proven product from professional electroplating technology

Practical Application Notes

  • The quality of the chromium layer strongly depends on surface preparation

  • Workpieces must be free of grease, dust, and oxides

  • The final gloss of the chromium layer reflects the surface finish of the substrate

  • Gentle bath movement improves coating uniformity

  • For optimal corrosion protection, a copper → nickel → chromium layer system is recommended

  • Wear safety goggles and chemical-resistant gloves

  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes

  • Use only in well-ventilated areas

  • Do not inhale vapors or ingest

  • Keep out of reach of children

  • Observe the safety data sheet

Anode sleeve fuzzy

Anode pad / tampon / anode sleeve / fuzzy sleeve / replacement fabric pad puffy from Betzmann Galvanik.    This puffy fabric pad / anode sleeve or also called tampon is absolutely recommended for all plating processes. Optimally suitable for all coatings and electrolytes.  The coating of larger areas is also quite fast with this pad.   The insertion hole is larger than the electrode and therefore it happens that the moist  anode pad slips off. Therefore, fix the pad on the electrode with a small rubber band.

Nickelstripper

Nickel Remover / Nickel Stripper SW10014 Effective chemical solution for removing electroplated nickel layers Short Description The Nickel Remover / Nickel Stripper SW10014 is a chemical solution designed for the fast, controlled, and efficient removal of electroplated nickel layers from metal surfaces. It is ideal for workshops, electroplating labs, hobby projects, or professional applications where existing nickel coatings need to be removed before re-plating or surface refinishing. Applications The nickel stripper is used to: Safely and uniformly remove electroplated nickel layers Prepare metal surfaces for re-plating Remove damaged, uneven, or aged nickel layers Restore metal parts prior to polishing or coating Use in workshops, small-scale production, and professional electroplating processes How Nickel Removal Works (Simple Explanation) Mechanical removal of nickel is difficult or may damage the base metal. The nickel remover uses a chemical reaction that selectively dissolves the nickel layer without significantly affecting the underlying metal (e.g., copper, brass, steel) when applied correctly: Preparation: Degrease and clean the workpiece. Immersion: Fully submerge the nickel-plated part in the solution. Dissolution: Chemical interaction dissolves the nickel layer. Completion: After removal, rinse parts thoroughly with water. Benefits of Nickel Remover SW10014 Efficient removal of electroplated nickel layers Selective toward nickel, gentle on most base metals Prepares surfaces for subsequent electroplating or finishing Easy bath application – no mechanical stripping required Suitable for hobby, workshop, and professional use Technical Parameters PropertyValue / RangeProduct typeNickel Remover / Chemical Nickel StripperApplicationChemical removal of nickel layersOperating temperatureRoom temperature to slightly warmedBath typeNon-electrolytic chemical processSuitable layersElectroplated nickelBase metalsCopper, brass, steel, stainless steel (after pretreatment)Reaction timeDepends on layer thickness and conditionLayer thicknessAll standard electroplated nickel layersSafety precautionsProtective equipment requiredStorageCool, dry, tightly closed container Note: Values are for general guidance and may vary depending on layer and application. Practical Application Tips Preparation: Degrease and clean the workpiece before immersion for best results. Nickel Removal in Dip Bath: Fully submerge the workpiece in the solution. Monitor reaction time – nickel dissolves depending on thickness and temperature. Remove the workpiece once the nickel layer is dissolved. Post-treatment: Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all residues. Degrease and activate before applying new coatings if required. Safety Information The nickel remover is a strong chemical solution that must be handled carefully: Wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing Avoid contact with skin and eyes Rinse immediately with water if contact occurs Work in well-ventilated areas only Do not ingest – seek medical attention if swallowed Keep out of reach of children Dispose of waste according to local chemical disposal regulations Conclusion The Nickel Remover / Nickel Stripper SW10014 is a reliable chemical solution for efficiently and controlled removal of electroplated nickel layers. It is ideal for workshops, hobbyists, and professional electroplating facilities that need to prepare surfaces for re-plating or further processing without mechanical effort or damage to the base material. The chemical dip bath application ensures uniform, gentle nickel removal and simplifies subsequent processes.
