Yellow Chromating
Product information "Yellow chromating" by Betzmann Galvanik Product description: Betzmann Galvanik Yellow Chromating - the product properties at a glance:   yellow to golden finish for zinc and galvanized objects ideal as finish for our zinc electrolyte simple dip bath, no power supply or accessories required completely free of highly toxic chromium(VI) also colors already blue passivated zinc parts yellow, e.g. screws from the hardware store The chromium(VI) yellow chromating, which has been common for many years, is no longer allowed in Germany due to its high toxicity, not even for commercial users. Therefore, we have now developed an alternative based on the much less problematic chromium (III). Yellow chromated parts are visually appealing, corrosion inhibited and a MUST for all those who work e.g. in the field of classic cars and classic car restoration. The yellow passivation creates a color tone on the zinc that is deceptively close to that of a chromium (VI) chromate coating. The color tone is reminiscent of brass, as with the old chromating. The iridescent effect of the yellow layer is also present.   The chromating of zinc and zinc workpieces is done simply by dipping them into the yellow chromating bath.   A yellow passivation layer is formed within a few minutes without any further aids. During passivation, part of the zinc is removed or dissolved, so make sure that the zinc layer is sufficiently thick (>= 2 µm). This is especially true if you have previously galvanized the workpieces yourself with our zinc electrolyte. You can stop the process at any time by removing the workpiece from the bath and rinsing it with distilled water. If the effect is too weak you can put the piece back into the bath until the desired color is achieved. Shades from very faint light yellow to golden yellow can be achieved.

Blue Chromating - Blue Passivating
Product information "Blue Chromating - Blue Passivation" from Betzmann Galvanik   Fields of application Blue chromating is used to protect existing zinc coatings or galvanically applied zinc coatings from oxidation and "tarnishing". It thus provides protection against zinc oxidation, but can hardly or not remove already existing oxidation. Furthermore, the slight yellowing caused by the brighteners of the Betzmann Galvanik zinc electrolyte after galvanizing can be removed by blue chromating. In this way, the galvanized objects are given a noble and visually appealing finish. In addition, chromating is often applied to aluminum workpieces. Blue chromating data  pH value: 2 - 3 Working temperature: room temperature (20 30°C) Immersion time: 15 s to 2 min     Effect of immersion time in blue chromate coating Tauchzeit [s] ffekt 5 - 15 the yellowing caused by brighteners disappears 15 - 45 bluish shimmering, glossy surface 45 - 120 Becomes increasingly matt  Corrosion protection increases   Use of the blue chromate Place the blue chromate in a suitable container and immerse the galvanized object in the chromate for a time between 15 and 120 seconds. Chromating must be done as soon as possible after galvanizing, otherwise a passivation layer will form on the zinc, making chromating impossible. With an immersion time of only 15 s, the yellow coloration disappears (see above). As the immersion time increases (approx. 30 s), a slightly bluish shimmering surface develops. If the immersion time is even longer, a more matte effect can be achieved. This layer then also has the highest corrosion resistance, although it is not as shiny. The times mentioned are not binding, it also depends on the condition of the zinc coating, temperature, etc. Therefore, check regularly whether the result corresponds to your wishes. Important to know: the zinc layer is removed by chromating! However, a maximum of 2 µm after a dipping time of 4 min.   Safety advice Causes skin irritation. Causes severe eye irritation.  Wash hands thoroughly after use. Wear protective gloves / protective clothing / eye protection / face protection. Wear face protection. IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of water. If skin irritation occurs: Seek medical advice / medical attention. Remove contaminated clothing. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove existing contact lenses if possible. Continue rinsing.   Disposal   Please contact your local waste disposal company or your pollutant collection point for information.
