Product information "White Bronze Mixer"

White Bronze Mixer BMG-117.2

Electroplating additive for producing active white bronze plating baths

Short Description

The White Bronze Mixer BMG-117.2 is a chemical additive used to convert an alkaline copper electrolyte into an active white bronze plating bath. When combined with the appropriate copper solution, this mixer enables the deposition of bright metallic white bronze layers with good corrosion and wear resistance, suitable as a nickel alternative.

Applications

The white bronze mixer is used to:

  • Create white bronze plating baths from alkaline copper solutions

  • Produce bright, decorative white bronze coatings

  • Apply functional metal layers with good resistance

  • Use in tank, brush, and pen/plug plating systems

This additive enables flexible galvanic processes where traditional nickel plating is not desired.

How the White Bronze Mixer Works (Simple Explanation)

White bronze coatings are formed by electroplating with an electrolyte that contains both a copper base and the white bronze mixer:

  1. Prepare the base bath: Set up an alkaline copper electrolyte.

  2. Add the mixer: Introduce the white bronze mixer to the copper solution.

  3. Activate the bath: The mixer modifies the chemistry, forming an active white bronze plating bath.

  4. Electroplating: Under direct current, white bronze deposits as a uniform, bright metallic layer.

Benefits of White Bronze Mixer BMG-117.2

  • Enables active white bronze plating baths

  • High deposition rates depending on process parameters

  • Nickel-free alternative with similar performance

  • Produces corrosion and wear-resistant coatings

  • Suitable for tank, brush, and pen plating

  • Creates bright, decorative surfaces

Application Notes

Bath Setup:

  • Start with a properly prepared alkaline copper electrolyte.

Adding the Mixer:

  • Introduce the white bronze mixer slowly under gentle bath agitation.

Galvanizing:

  • Plate as usual; the modified electrolyte now deposits bright white bronze layers.

  • Adjust current density, temperature, or additive amount for desired color and properties.

Safety Information

Chemical additives require safe handling:

  • Wear protective gloves, eye protection, and appropriate clothing

  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes

  • Rinse immediately if contact occurs

  • Work in well-ventilated areas

  • Do not ingest; keep out of reach of children

  • Dispose of waste according to local regulations

Conclusion

The White Bronze Mixer BMG-117.2 enables the creation of active white bronze plating baths from alkaline copper electrolytes, allowing efficient production of bright, wear-resistant white bronze coatings. It is an excellent additive for decorative and functional plating applications, suitable for hobbyists, workshops, and professional electroplating environments.

Copper Plating Solution

Alkaline Copper Electrolyte BMG-093 Alkaline copper electrolyte for electroplating metal surfaces Short Description The Alkaline Copper Electrolyte BMG-093 is a ready-to-use alkaline (basic) solution for electroplating copper onto metal parts. Unlike acidic copper electrolytes, this alkaline copper bath is especially suitable for acid-sensitive materials such as iron, steel, or zinc. It is easy to use and produces smooth, uniform copper layers that can serve either as a protective coating or as an intermediate layer for further electroplating processes such as nickel or chromium plating. What is this alkaline copper electrolyte used for? The alkaline copper electrolyte is used to electroplate metal surfaces with a copper layer in order to: protect metal parts against corrosion create a smooth and even copper surface provide an ideal base layer for further coatings (nickel, chromium, precious metals) allow copper plating on acid-sensitive metals such as steel, iron, or zinc Typical applications include: restoration and repair work corrosion protection of steel and iron parts preparation for multi-layer electroplating systems hobby, craft, and small-scale professional projects How does copper plating work? (simple explanation) In electroplating, copper is transferred onto a workpiece using electrical current: The workpiece is thoroughly cleaned and degreased It is connected as the cathode (negative pole) A suitable anode (e.g. copper sheet or copper wire) is connected as the positive pole When direct current is applied, copper ions from the electrolyte are deposited evenly onto the surface The result is a thin, uniform copper coating with a characteristic reddish metallic appearance. Advantages of Alkaline Copper Electrolyte BMG-093 suitable for acid-sensitive metals easy to use, also suitable for beginners produces uniform and decorative copper coatings ideal as a base layer for nickel or chromium plating suitable for tank plating, brush plating, and pen plating cyanide-free and easy to handle proven electrolyte from professional electroplating technology Technical Parameters PropertyValue / RangeNotesElectrolyte typeAlkaline copper electrolytebasic, cyanide-freepH valueapprox. 8–9alkaline rangeOperating temperature20–60 °Croom temperature to slightly heatedVoltage (tank plating)approx. 1–2.5 Vrecommended from ~1.5 VVoltage (brush / pen plating)approx. 2.5–6 Vrecommended ~4–5 VCurrent densityapprox. 0.2–1.5 A/dm²up to ~3 A/dm² with agitationDeposition rateapprox. 0.4 µm/min at 1 A/dm²typical plating rateAnode materialCopper (preferred), nickel, or suitable inert anodescopper recommendedSuitable substratesSteel, iron, zinc and other metalsideal for acid-sensitive materialsNot suitable forAluminum, chromium, titanium (without special pretreatment)testing recommended (Values represent typical operating parameters for alkaline copper electrolytes.) Practical Application Notes Surface preparation is critical: remove grease, oil, oxides, and rust before plating Copper anodes help maintain a stable copper concentration in the bath Gentle bath movement improves coating uniformity Copper layers are an excellent base for subsequent nickel or chromium plating Safety Information Although this alkaline copper electrolyte is cyanide-free, it is still a chemical product: Wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety goggles Avoid contact with skin and eyes Use only in well-ventilated areas Do not inhale vapors or aerosols Keep out of reach of children and unauthorized persons Scope of Delivery Alkaline Copper Electrolyte BMG-093 Quantity according to selection Important Notice This product requires basic knowledge of electroplating. Anode sleeve fuzzy

Anode pad / tampon / anode sleeve / fuzzy sleeve / replacement fabric pad puffy from Betzmann Galvanik.    This puffy fabric pad / anode sleeve or also called tampon is absolutely recommended for all plating processes. Optimally suitable for all coatings and electrolytes.  The coating of larger areas is also quite fast with this pad.   The insertion hole is larger than the electrode and therefore it happens that the moist  anode pad slips off. Therefore, fix the pad on the electrode with a small rubber band.

Carbon Electrode 6mm

Graphite round rod - Graphite rod anode - Graphite electrode for gold plating.  Graphite electrodes are ultimate for all coatings. The advantage is that in some coatings with stainless steel electrodes, the dislodged metal parts disturb the coating. This does not happen with graphite electrodes, because graphite also filters out contaminated liquids. With bath electroplating, they also need to be replaced occasionally as they slowly dissolve during the plating process.   With pad electroplating, simply loosen the screw on the handle and replace with a new one.   Diameter 6 mm, length approx. 9 cm    Features Used for Doesn’t contaminate Cleaner Activating and electro-cleaning  Its resistive properties help to heat the solution you’re plating with Chromium plating, which needs to be plated at 25 degrees celsius; its natural heating action helps to maintain the solution’s optimal temperature Low cost Can be used for all plating processes but carbon electrodes deteriorate over a period of time and discolour swabs (discolouration does not affect the plating quality)
