Why Electroplate with Silver?
Silver offers the highest electrical conductivity of all metals, combined with excellent thermal conductivity and an attractive bright white appearance. It is one of the most widely used precious metals in electroplating for both decorative and functional applications.
Silver plating is commonly used for:
Decorative finishes
Electrical contacts
Printed circuit boards (PCBs)
Connectors and terminals
Jewellery
Watches
Cutlery
Musical instruments
Precision components
Restoration work
In addition to its elegant appearance, a silver coating significantly improves conductivity while providing excellent wear resistance and protection against oxidation.
Suitable Base Materials
The Silver Electrolyte is suitable for plating:
Copper
Brass
Bronze
Nickel
Steel (with appropriate pre-treatment)
Stainless steel (after Nickel Strike activation)
Silver
Copper-plated components
Depending on the substrate, we recommend using the appropriate activator or intermediate layer to achieve maximum adhesion.
Recommended Plating Structure
For maximum durability and long-term colour stability, the following plating sequence is recommended:
Base Material → Copper → Nickel → Silver
The nickel layer acts as a diffusion barrier, preventing copper migration into the silver coating and ensuring a bright, tarnish-resistant finish.
Typical Applications
Ideal for:
Jewellery manufacturing
Jewellery repair
Watchmaking
Electronics
Printed circuit boards (PCBs)
Electrical contacts
Connectors
Musical instruments
Restoration
Classic cars
Model making
Laboratories
Industrial electroplating
Professional metal finishing
Application
Before silver plating:
Thoroughly clean and degrease the workpiece.
Remove all oxide layers.
Activate the surface according to the base material.
During plating:
For tank plating, immerse the workpiece completely in the electrolyte.
For pen plating or brush plating, keep the electrode moving continuously across the surface to ensure uniform metal deposition.
After plating, rinse the workpiece thoroughly with clean water and dry completely.
