Gold Whitener BMG-122.3 – Mixing Solution for Adjusting Gold Shades

Short Description:
The Gold Whitener BMG-122.3 is a specially developed mixing solution used in electroplating to lighten gold colors or modify gold tones. When mixed with a standard gold electrolyte, it allows the creation of a wide range of shades – from classic 18-karat yellow gold to champagne or white-gold-like tones.

What is the Gold Whitener?

The Gold Whitener is an additive (mixer) that is combined with a regular gold electrolyte to adjust and brighten the color of the deposited gold layer. Depending on the mixing ratio, it can produce elegant 18-karat gold tones, lighter yellow gold, champagne shades, or even white-gold-like finishes.

What is it used for?

  • Adjusting gold colors:
Create lighter or softer gold shades such as 18 K, 14 K, champagne, or white-gold-like tones.

  • Flexible color control:
The more Gold Whitener added, the lighter the resulting gold color.

  • Compatible with standard gold electrolytes:
No need for a separate base electrolyte – simply mix with your existing gold solution.

Application & Mixing Ratio

  • Standard mixture: Mix 2 ml Gold Whitener with 10 ml gold electrolyte to achieve a typical 18-karat gold tone.

  • Lighter shades: Higher proportions of Gold Whitener result in lighter gold or champagne tones.

  • Can also be used undiluted if required.

Recommended electrodes:

  • Platinum electrode – for fine, uniform, high-quality coatings

  • Graphite electrode – versatile and widely used

Properties & Technical Data

  • Operating voltage: approx. 3.0 – 5.0 V

  • Operating temperature: approx. 18 – 25 °C (room temperature)

Your Advantages at a Glance Approx. 10 g/L palladium Very bright, silver-white metallic appearance High-quality decorative palladium coating Nickel-free barrier layer between copper/copper alloys and gold High corrosion resistance Low porosity Palladium is significantly more resistant to tarnishing than silver Suitable for jewellery, watches and technical components Also suitable for electrical contacts Solderable palladium coating High coating hardness of approx. 488 HV Suitable for professional electroplating applications What Is White Palladium Used For? The White Palladium Electrolyte is ideally suited for: Bright, silver-white palladium coatings Decorative metal surfaces Jewellery and jewellery components Watches and accessories Electronic components Electrical contacts Precision parts Corrosion protection Nickel-free coating systems Barrier layers before gold plating Preparation for subsequent precious-metal coatings Palladium provides a high-quality surface and, compared with silver, offers significantly better resistance to tarnishing. Palladium as a Barrier Layer Before Gold Plating One particularly important application is the use of palladium as a barrier layer before subsequent gold plating. A typical multilayer coating system may consist of: Base material → Copper → Palladium → Gold The palladium layer separates the base material from the gold coating and acts as a barrier and diffusion layer. This can help prevent unwanted interaction between the individual metal layers and allows a high-quality and durable gold coating to be produced. How Does Palladium Electroplating Work? During electroplating, palladium ions contained in the electrolyte are deposited onto the workpiece as metallic palladium using direct current. 1. Preparation Thoroughly clean and degrease the workpiece. 2. Electrical Connection Connect the workpiece as the cathode (negative pole). 3. Palladium Deposition The electrical current reduces the palladium ions at the workpiece surface, depositing metallic palladium. 4. Post-Treatment After plating, thoroughly rinse the workpiece with clean water and dry it. Suitable Base Materials The electrolyte can be used on appropriately prepared surfaces of various metals, including: Copper Brass Nickel Silver Gold Suitable dechromed surfaces The required pretreatment depends on the specific base material. For optimum adhesion, the surface must be clean, grease-free and properly activated. Application Instructions Preparation Thoroughly clean and degrease the workpiece. Residues of oil, grease, polishing compounds and dirt can negatively affect adhesion and coating quality. Electroplating Heat the electrolyte to the recommended working temperature of 48–52 °C. Connect the workpiece as the cathode and set the recommended voltage. Gentle movement of the electrolyte can help produce a more uniform coating. Post-Treatment After plating, thoroughly rinse the workpiece with clean water and dry it. If required, the surface can subsequently be lightly polished to further enhance the appearance. White Palladium for Jewellery and Skin Contact Palladium is particularly suitable for applications where a nickel-free surface is desired. The bright, silver-white appearance makes the electrolyte suitable for: Rings Chains Pendants Bracelets Watches Jewellery components High-quality accessories White Palladium for Technical Applications In addition to its decorative applications, palladium also offers interesting technical properties. The coating can be used for: Electrical contacts Electronic components Precision parts Technical components Corrosion protection Multilayer precious-metal coating systems The combination of high hardness, corrosion resistance and low porosity makes palladium a versatile coating metal. Practical Tips for Optimum Results ✔ Thoroughly clean and degrease the workpiece. ✔ Prepare the surface according to the base material. ✔ Use a clean platinum or graphite anode. ✔ Heat the electrolyte to 48–52 °C. ✔ Keep the electrode distance as constant as possible. ✔ Use only gentle bath movement. ✔ Thoroughly rinse after plating. ✔ If gold plating follows, process the clean palladium surface without unnecessary delay. Safety Information The electrolyte is classified as irritating. H315: Causes skin irritation. H319: Causes serious eye irritation. H412: Harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
