Copper Plating Solution

Product information "Copper Plating Solution"

Our copper electrolyte alkaline for acid-sensitive metals is cyanide-free!

Ideal for bath and tampon - / pin electroplating suitable

50 grams copper / liter

For use on iron and zinc metals

Easy to use and cyanide free

Ideally suited to copperplate even acid-sensitive materials (iron, zinc or steel). For example, copper plating can also be applied to materials that are attacked by the acidic copper electrolyte - for example, rusting steels or other ferrous materials. Copper plating effectively protects workpieces made of iron and steel against rust and gives them an attractive surface thanks to the typical red luster of the precious metal. Because of its good solderability, electroplated copper plating is ideal for the production of printed circuit boards or similar. Simply use the copper electrolyte together with a copper sheet as anode and you can quickly provide a component with a shiny copper coating yourself. The exact instructions for use can be found in our guide here in the download area!

For copper plating of non-acid sensitive materials please use the Betzmann Electroplating Bright Copper Electrolyte.

Alkaline copper electrolyte can be used in bath electroplating as well as in pin electroplating/tampon electroplating. Since it enables electroplating of acid-sensitive metals, it is suitable for many applications. Important properties of alkaline copper electrolyte are excellent leveling and good scattering. This color tone can be further enhanced by an additional coating with our bright copper electrolyte.

Applications for Copper Electrolyte Alkaline

Copper Alkaline prepares acid-sensitive materials for copper plating with acidic copper electrolyte. These include, for example, various ferrous materials or zinc.

A particular advantage is that it does not deposit electrolessly on iron, which would form a loose coating before electrodeposition begins. This increases adhesion to ferrous materials.

Basic copper electrolyte serves as an intermediate layer for acid-sensitive metals before final plating with acid electrolytic copper or other coatings.

Basic copper electrolyte is suitable for the following metals:

Lead, bronze, iron, copper, brass, zinc, tin, steel, zinc die casting and many others.

Basic copper is not suitable for aluminum, chromium and titanium. Aluminum requires pretreatment with aluminum activator

Please test all other metals not mentioned above for their suitability for electroplating before copper plating.

Application instructions for copper electrolyte alkaline

Copper Electrolyte Alkaline is suitable for all electroplating processes from bath electroplating to pin electroplating / pad electroplating. It already works at room temperature; however, it can be heated if necessary. The ideal temperature range is between 25 - 50°C.

Copper electrolyte alkaline for acid sensitive metals

Copper electrolyte alkaline (basic) can be used in both bath electroplating and pen plating / tampon plating. Our alkaline copper electrolyte contains no cyanides.

Since it enables electroplating of acid-sensitive metals, it is suitable for many applications. The important properties of alkaline copper electrolyte are excellent levelling and good dispersion. In addition, alkaline or basic copper impresses with an intensive and visually attractive color tone. An additional coating with our bright copper electrolyte can further enhance this color tone.

Application areas for copper electrolyte alkaline

Copper alkaline prepares acid-sensitive materials for copper plating with acid copper electrolyte. These include various ferrous materials or zinc.

A particular advantage is that it does not deposit on iron without current, which would form a loose coating before galvanic deposition begins. This increases the adhesion on ferrous materials.

Basic copper electrolyte serves as an intermediate layer for acid-sensitive metals before the final coating with acid electrolytic copper or other coatings.

Basic copper electrolyte is suitable for the following metals:

Lead, bronze, iron, copper, brass, zinc, tin, steel, zinc die-cast and many others

Basic copper is not suitable for aluminum, chrome and titanium. Aluminium requires a pretreatment with the aluminium activator

Please test all other metals not mentioned above for their suitability for galvanic copper plating before copper plating

Copper Acid
Bright copper electrolyte  - copper electrolyte acidic   Acid copper electrolyte for bright coatings. Our Betzmann Galvanik bright copper electrolyte convinces by a high deposition rate and a bright copper layer. Subsequent polishing of the polishable copper layer is not necessary. Further characteristics of electroplated copper from our product range are the good levelling properties as well as an excellent scattering. This also applies to the ductility of the product, making the copper electrolyte primarily suitable for thin coatings and multilayer processes. The bright copper electrolyte has been developed for all electroplating processes from bath plating to pen plating / pad plating. The acidic copper always delivers high quality results regardless of the electroplating process used. Areas of application of electroplated copper Electroplated copper plating is often the basis of corrosion protection systems. Here, the copper layer deposited from the copper electrolyte combined with a nickel or chromium coating forms the basic layer of a durable multilayer protection. In combination with brass, copper serves as a functional intermediate layer. Electroplated copper increases the corrosion resistance of surfaces. galvanic copper plating improves thermal and electrical conductivity. Copper-plated surfaces serve aesthetic purposes and are used as design elements in interior design, but also in exterior applications. Layer build-up in the context of silver plating and gilding of objects. The very good levelling properties of copper electrolyte reduce the polishing costs of metals. Furthermore, it has a very good polishability. Gold and silver plating benefit from the layer structure. In this case, bright copper forms the lowest layer, to which a nickel layer is applied before the final gilding or silvering. The nickel layer serves as a diffusion barrier layer, otherwise the copper would diffuse into the gold and turn reddish. Copper electrolyte for which materials Alkaline copper electrolyte and copper acid are suitable for a variety of different materials. However, please differentiate precisely between acid-sensitive and acid-resistant materials. Acid-resistant materials such as nickel, copper, brass or bronze can be electroplated with copper acidic in the first step. Acid-sensitive materials such as zinc or iron require pretreatment with alkaline copper electrolyte. Only then is galvanic copper plating with bright copper electrolyte in the form of copper acidic possible. Surfaces of aluminum, chrome, zinc, tin or titanium are unsuitable for direct acid copper plating. How to achieve optimum results You use the high-quality bright copper for bath plating and pen plating / pad plating. It provides optimum results in every process, provided that the following parameters are taken into account:     Bath electroplating: 0.3-2V (approx. 0.8-1.2V recommended at 10cm distance). pin electroplating: 1,2-4,5V (approx. 3V recommended) Current density: 0.6-4.2A/dm² (up to 7A/dm² with bath movement) Working temperature: 15-60°C deposition rate: approx.1.5µm/min at 3A/dm² and 20°C ph-value: 1 Use graphite or copper anodes as anodes.   Correct application for high-quality results Prior to electroplating, whether bath or pen plating, clean the workpiece with utmost care, e.g. by thoroughly degreasing it with alcohol. Use disposable gloves to avoid transferring skin grease to the surfaces. Contamination caused by rust must be completely removed. In case of pen plating, make sure that the tampon is always in motion. You can either heat the bright copper to the recommended temperatures or use the electrolytic copper at room temperature. Copper plating should only be carried out in well-ventilated rooms and the vapours and aerosols produced should not be inhaled.   Marking of the mixture: Bright copper electrolyte (contains copper sulfate, sulfuric acid)      Signal word: Danger H-phrases: H290: May be corrosive to metals. Product information “Silver electrolyte” silver plating - cyanide free! Article description:Betzmann electroplating silver electrolyte - the product properties at a glance: 330 grams of silver per liter - Highly concentrated for fast silver plating Cyanide-free and safe to use - ideal for jewelry manufacturers and also for hobby usersSuitable for bath and pin electroplatingBuilds up thick silver layers very quickly Creates shiny silver layers that can be polished to a high shinePlease note that you need both a power supply unit and a bath or pin electroplating system to create abrasion-resistant silver layers on objects.Silver briefly deposits grey and is then gently polished to a shine with a damp microfiber cloth, then the bright white silver appears. A yellow clouding of the fabric pad during silver plating is normal and decomposes again after a short time. The silver electrolyte is ideal for bath and pin electroplating. With the cyanide-free silver electrolyte from Betzmann Galvanik, you can easily electroplate silver yourself! In contrast to the highly toxic silver electrolytes commonly used in industry, the cyanide-free silver electrolyte is safe to handle. The electrolyte deposits robust and attractive layers of fine silver. The silver is deposited brightly and generally no longer needs to be polished. The electrolyte is ideal for silver-plating jewelry, restorative silver-plating of silver cutlery and galvanic silver-plating of many other objects. Due to the high silver content of 30 grams per liter, the electrolyte deposits silver very quickly - this is particularly advantageous in pin electroplating, as it reduces the working time. Base metals such as zinc or iron should be nickel-plated, copper-plated or silver-plated before silver-plating. Palladium 10 Gramm per Liter
Palladium Solution from Betzmann Galvanik with 10 Gramm per Liter - as nickel substitute - barrier layer or as hard decorative top layer!    Palladium electrolyte - The allergen-free alternative to nickel! Palladinizing or plating with palladium is a rather rarely used galvanic coating. However, palladium plating can offer some advantages, especially as a substitute for galvanic nickel plating with a nickel electrolyte.  The advantages of palladium electrolyte compared to electroless nickel plating: Typically, a nickel electrolyte is used to apply a barrier layer of nickel between copper and gold, preventing the two metals from mixing. However, a palladium plating offers several distinct advantages over the nickel electrolyte: Palladium is more noble than nickel, meaning there is no surface corrosion, and the palladium does NOT require extra activation prior to gold plating as nickel does. The deposition rate and efficiency are excellent, i.e. there is no unwanted gas evolution. The electrolyte deposits silvery white, very bright palladium which can be used as a bright "finish". Gold plating with the Betzmann gold electrolyte for pin electroplating achieves an optimum result on palladium. In contrast to nickel electrolyte, palladium is not carcinogenic and is therefore also permitted for private users!  A very good combination for gold plating of almost all metals is:  Alkaline or acid copper depending on the metal, palladium and finally gold.  All necessary electrolytes are available in our store. Palladium can be plated on the following metals:  Copper, nickel, brass, silver, gold, on all dechromed surfaces.   Recommended voltages:  Pen - Brush electroplating: from 3 volts - Bath electroplating: 3 - 4 volts. Recommended is graphite electrode or platinum electrode from our store. Palladium content: 10 grams per liter   Main benefits;  Makes a great alternative to rhodium plating giving an authentic 18 carat white gold or platinum plated look. palladium plating solution (unlike rhodium) doesn’t etch materials made of calcium carbonate such as pearl and coral, so you won’t have to worry about masking out these materials before submerging them in your palladium plating bath. can be used as a substitute for nickel as a barrier layer for gold plating on copper and its alloys. can be used as an alternative to silver as it doesn’t tarnish and is hard-wearing. Very low porosity – excellent for corrosion protection. Metal Polish Ultrafine
MPU Fine is as the name implies; a fine version of our MPU. It is ideal when working on thin flash coatings of gold as it removes the minimum of metal. If further plating is required, just as with Ultra, then all you have to do is wipe well with a clean paper towel and continue plating. As the particle size is no more than the wavelength of visual light, there is no chance of leaving any scratch. The scratch-free property of MPU makes it excellent for polishing very soft surfaces such as gold and silver plate. Even the smallest solid contaminant on a swab or final polishing cloth will produce a scratch in gold and silver. MPU fine polishes these scratches out whilst protecting the properties of the plated layer.     Features Used for Fine version of MPU Working on thin flash coatings of gold as it removes the minimum amount of metal. As with MPU, if further plating is required all you have to do is wipe well with a clean paper towel and continue plating Particle size of MPU Fine no more than the wavelength of visual light No chance of leaving a scratch on even the softest of metals, such as gold or silver plate – great also for removing scratches in plastic and glass

Aluminum Activator
Aluminum Pretreatment - Aluminum Activator  A metallically pure surface is essential for successful electroplating.  Aluminum (Al) is a base metal (with a normal potential of -1.6 V) and forms a dense oxide layer within a short time.  a dense oxide layer within a short time. Reliable plating is impossible on an oxide layer.  In order to coat aluminum nevertheless, an intermediate layer, a so-called "zincate layer" is usually is applied. The material can then be gold-plated, copper-plated or otherwise electroplated.  The aluminum activator works perfectly with pure aluminum, and with many Al alloys as well.  should be tested in advance.     Especially aluminum-silicon alloys do not work at all. Please coat only with alkaline copper! This product contains acid. However, you will receive a detailed guide so that you can work safely. We offer here a solution with reduced viscosity, because this has many advantages.   The advantages are: - the lower viscosity reduces the entrapment of the solution in porous casting molds (blistering of the subsequent coating) - lower loss of chemicals (especially in unfavorable molds) - faster deposition - higher safety of deposition on aluminum alloys containing magnesium and silicon.   Aluminiumpreparer: Now you can plate It! Operating Conditions and Deposit Data Temperature 18 – 25 °C Immersion time 30 seconds to 2 minutes (see notes) Thickness of zinc film 0.1 – 0.2 microns Agitation Occasional work movement. White Bronze Mixer
White Bronze Mixer  Just like the other ‘mixer solutions’ we sell, Bronze Mixer can be added to our new copper solution to create a beautiful shade of freshly cast bronze. This brand new solution, exclusive to Real Gold, has been introduced as a replacement for nickel plating solution. Nickel is now banned by the EU for use in the cosmetic industry, as it causes nickel allergy in some people. White Bronze is the ideal substitute for nickel plate, where the surface of the metal is likely to come into contact with the skin, such as on costume jewellery or on spectacle frames. The main uses are listed below. A replacement for nickel to stop nickel allergy. Replaces nickel for use as a barrier layer when electroplating gold onto copper or brass. Makes an excellent key layer when plating silver onto pewter, Britannia metal or other high-tin alloys. Is similar in hardness to nickel with the electrical properties of silver but with superior corrosion resistance. White bronze makes an excellent undercoat forblack chrome. As with our other mixer solutions, you have the same flexibility to create the exact shade of bronze you require. At a low mix ratio it plates an attractive gold shade (2N) of bronze, a white, tarnish resistant coating which resembles nickel. The highest ratio is more like bright chrome.     Features Used for When mixed with our Copper Plating Solution to create white bronze, can be used as a replacement for nickel to comply with EU legislation and avoid nickel allergy Plating any items that will be handled or otherwise come into regular contact with the skin, for example jewellery, lighters and musical instruments Non-tarnish and silver-like in appearance Can be used as a low-cost, tarnish resistant alternative to silver plate for example when repairing musical instruments or up-cycling silver plated antiques Effective as a barrier layer Can be used for plating on non-conductive surfaces; makes an excellent barrier layer between copper/brass and gold – ideal for plating on non-conductive surfaces Base coat Plating an excellent undercoat for black chrome and when plating silver onto pewter, Britannia metal or other high-tin alloys.   Mixing ratio; 1 part Copper Plating Solution to 2 parts White Bronze Mixer – leave to stand for 15 minutes before using     Kennzeichnung gem.
