Alkaline Copper Electrolyte – Cyanide-Free Copper Bath for Acid-Sensitive Metals
Professional Alkaline Copper Electrolyte for Tank, Pen and Brush Plating
The Alkaline Copper Electrolyte from Betzmann Galvanik is a high-quality, cyanide-free copper electrolyte for the electroplating of acid-sensitive metals. It has been specially developed to reliably apply firmly adhering copper coatings on materials such as iron, steel, zinc and zinc die-cast alloys.
Unlike acidic copper electrolytes, the alkaline copper electrolyte is ideally suited as an adhesion layer and intermediate coating for materials that may be attacked by acidic electrolytes.
The electrolyte is suitable for both tank plating and pen/brush plating (tampon plating) and enables uniform, decorative and functional copper coatings at room temperature.
Your Advantages
Cyanide-free alkaline copper electrolyte

Easy application at room temperature
Professional quality from Betzmann Galvanik
Why Use Alkaline Copper Plating?
Many metals cannot be directly plated with an acidic copper electrolyte. Especially iron, steel and zinc require a special copper strike layer to achieve a permanently adherent copper coating.
The alkaline copper electrolyte enables:
Strongly adherent copper coatings on iron-based materials
Protection of sensitive base materials
Preparation for further electroplating processes
Construction of high-quality multilayer coating systems
After alkaline copper plating, the surface can be further processed with a bright acid copper electrolyte to achieve an especially smooth and glossy finish.

Aluminium Activator / Aluminium Pretreatment – Preparation for Electroplating Aluminium SurfacesProfessional Aluminium Pretreatment for Galvanic Coating of AluminiumThe Aluminium Activator from Betzmann Galvanik has been specially developed to prepare aluminium surfaces for subsequent electroplating processes.Because aluminium forms a natural oxide layer on its surface, direct electroplating is difficult. This pretreatment first creates a firmly adhering zinc layer on the aluminium surface. This zinc layer then serves as a base for further electroplating processes, for example with an alkaline copper electrolyte. The optimized low-viscosity formulation offers significant advantages compared to conventional aluminium activators and enables reliable processing even on complex aluminium components.Your AdvantagesSpecially developed for the electroplating pretreatment of aluminiumCreates an adherent zinc layer on aluminiumEnables subsequent electroplating processesIdeal preparation for alkaline copper electrolytesReduced viscosity for improved application propertiesLower chemical lossesLess solution entrapment in porous aluminium castingsFaster zinc depositionImproved process safety on aluminium alloysSuitable for demanding aluminium componentsWhy Activate Aluminium Before Electroplating?Aluminium quickly forms a stable oxide layer on its surface. This oxide layer prevents direct and permanent electroplating. The aluminium activation process:Removes the oxide layerDeposits a thin zinc layerCreates an adhesive surface for further coatingsAfter this pretreatment, aluminium can be reliably coated with additional electroplated layers.Typical coating system:Aluminium → Aluminium Activator (Zinc Layer) → Alkaline Copper → Nickel → Gold / Chromium / Precious MetalsTypical ApplicationsSuitable for:Aluminium componentsAluminium alloysAluminium castingsMachine componentsAutomotive partsModel makingRestoration workTechnical coatingsDecorative surface finishingEspecially suitable for aluminium alloys containing:MagnesiumSiliconAdvantages of the Low-Viscosity FormulationThe specially developed low viscosity provides important advantages:Reduced Solution Entrapment in Porous Cast StructuresWith conventional, higher-viscosity solutions, the chemical may penetrate into pores and capillaries of aluminium cast parts. This can later cause problems such as blistering or defects in subsequent coatings. The low-viscosity formulation significantly reduces this effect.Lower Chemical ConsumptionImproved wetting and reduced solution carry-over result in lower chemical losses, especially with:Complex component geometriesPorous cast surfacesDifficult workpiece shapesFaster DepositionThe optimized composition enables efficient and uniform zinc deposition on aluminium surfaces.Application InstructionsBefore activation, the aluminium surface must be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. For optimum results:Completely remove grease and contaminationRemove oxide layersDo not touch the cleaned surface with bare handsContinue with the next plating step immediately after activationAfter zinc activation of the aluminium surface, further coating is preferably carried out with an alkaline copper electrolyte.Technical PropertiesProcess: Aluminium zinc pretreatmentPurpose: Creation of a galvanically suitable zinc intermediate layerSubsequent layer: Alkaline copperSuitable for aluminium and aluminium alloysSupplied AsReady-to-use aluminium activator / pretreatment solutionAvailable in various container sizesQuality from Betzmann GalvanikBetzmann Galvanik develops professional solutions for demanding electroplating applications.
