Gold Electroplating
The 4 g/L Gold Electrolyte can be used to electroplate suitable metal surfaces with a high-quality gold coating. Depending on the application, the electrolyte can be used for bath plating, tampon plating or pen plating.
For bath plating, either a graphite electrode or platinum electrode can be used. A platinum mesh / platinum plating mesh is particularly suitable as an anode because its mesh structure provides a large active surface area.
Suitable Electrodes
Graphite Electrode:
Suitable for bath plating and various electroplating applications. Graphite provides good electrical conductivity and is chemically resistant to many electrolytes.
Platinum Electrode:
Suitable for high-quality and demanding electroplating applications. For bath plating, a platinum mesh / platinum plating mesh is particularly recommended as the anode.
When using a platinum electrode, ensure that the anode surface area is sufficiently sized and that the workpiece is positioned evenly opposite the anode.
Suitable for Bath, Tampon and Pen Plating
Bath Plating
For bath plating, the workpiece is connected to the negative pole (-) of the rectifier and acts as the cathode.
A graphite electrode or platinum electrode is connected to the positive pole (+) and acts as the anode.
A platinum mesh / platinum plating mesh is particularly suitable for bath plating because the mesh design provides a large anode surface.
The anode should be positioned as evenly as possible in relation to the workpiece. This helps achieve a more uniform current distribution and consequently a more uniform gold deposit.
Tampon Plating
Ideal for partial gold plating, repairs and touch-up plating directly on the workpiece.
Pen Plating
Ideal for small areas, edges, logos, contacts and precise spot plating.
Suitable Base Metals
The electrolyte can be used on a range of suitable metallic surfaces, including:

Brass
Nickel
Suitable stainless steel surfaces
Other suitably pre-treated metallic surfaces
The quality and adhesion of the gold coating depend greatly on the correct cleaning, degreasing and activation of the base material.
For difficult base materials, a suitable intermediate or adhesion layer may be required.
No Free Cyanides
The Gold Electrolyte contains no free cyanides and therefore provides an attractive alternative to conventional cyanide-based gold plating baths.

Important: Even an electrolyte without free cyanides is still a chemical product and must be handled according to the specified safety and application instructions.

Bath Plating – Application
Thoroughly clean and degrease the workpiece.
Activate the surface according to the base material.
Rinse the workpiece thoroughly.
Fill a suitable plating tank with the Gold Electrolyte.
Connect the workpiece to the negative pole (-) of the rectifier (cathode).
Connect the graphite or platinum electrode / platinum mesh to the positive pole (+) (anode).
Position the workpiece and anode as evenly as possible.
Carry out the gold plating using the appropriate electroplating parameters for the electrolyte.
After plating, rinse the workpiece thoroughly and dry carefully.
Proper pre-treatment and uniform current distribution are essential for achieving good adhesion, colour, coating quality and durability.
