Bath description:

The passivation process is based on an aqueous basis, in which the organic inhibitor is present in a finely divided emulsion. The passivation layer is applied by

The passivation layer is applied by immersion, creating a transparent, organic protective film that preserves the appearance and good electrical properties of silver,

e.g. contact resistance and conductivity.

The good solderability and bondability of silver is not affected by the passivation layer.

Generally, passivation is used to protect silver surfaces from the influence of sulfur compounds during storage. It can also be used to protect copper, palladium and thin gold layers from tarnishing. Due to its chemical composition, the protective film has lubricating properties, which is of great advantage for certain electrical connection elements. The plugging and unplugging forces are significantly reduced by the silver tarnish protection from Betzmann Galvanik.

This applies not only to silver surfaces, but also to gold-plated sliding and plug contacts.

It is also worth noting that the anti-tarnish layer consists of non-hazardous substances, and that its protective effect allows short-term

thermal stress up to 300°C.

Silver Electrolyte BMG‑103.8 High-quality silver plating solution – 30 g of silver per liter Short Description The Silver Electrolyte BMG‑103.8 is a ready-to-use electroplating solution formulated for the electrolytic deposition of bright, high-quality silver layers. With 30 grams of silver per liter, it produces uniform, reflective, and conductive silver coatings suitable for both decorative and functional applications. The deposited silver layer provides excellent optical brightness, good wear resistance, and high electrical conductivity, ideal for jewelry, electronics, and precision components. Applications This silver plating solution is used for: Decorative silver plating for jewelry, accessories, and ornamental items Functional plating to improve electrical and thermal conductivity Wear-resistant surfaces and protective coatings Tank, brush, and pen/peg plating, depending on equipment Multi-layer plating systems (e.g., copper → silver → gold) Silver plating enhances both aesthetic appeal and surface performance, especially where brightness and conductivity are important. How Silver Plating Works (Simple Explanation) Silver plating uses electrolytic deposition, where silver ions in the electrolyte are reduced under direct current and form a metal layer on a prepared surface: Surface Preparation: Clean and degrease the workpiece thoroughly to remove oils and contaminants. Activation: Activate the surface if necessary to ensure good adhesion. Electroplating: Connect the part as the cathode (negative pole) and apply direct current; silver ions migrate and deposit as a smooth, bright layer. Finishing: After plating, rinse and dry – the silver layer remains bright and reflective. The resulting silver coating is uniform, glossy, and durable. Benefits of Silver Electrolyte BMG‑103.8 Bright, reflective silver finish Good electrical and thermal conductivity Suitable for decorative and functional applications Compatible with tank, brush, and pen/peg plating Produces uniform and durable deposits Ideal for jewelry, electronics, contacts, and connectors Technical Parameters PropertyValue / RangeElectrolyte typeSilver electroplating solutionSilver contentapprox. 30 g/LpHslightly acidic to neutral, optimized for silver depositionOperating temperature15–30 °CVoltage (tank plating)1.5–3.5 VVoltage (brush/pen plating)3–7 VCurrent density0.5–3 A/dm²Anode materialGraphite or pure silverTypical deposit thickness1–5 µm (adjustable by time/parameters)Surface appearanceBright and smoothDeposit purity>99.9 % silverConductivityVery goodShelf life1–2 years Note: Values are practical guidelines and may vary slightly depending on equipment, setup, and application conditions. Practical Application Tips Surface Preparation: Thoroughly clean and degrease workpieces to remove grease, oils, and fingerprints. Perform activation if necessary for uniform adhesion. Silver Plating: For tank plating, maintain consistent voltage, current density, and electrolyte circulation. For brush or pen plating, keep tools moving steadily for even coverage. Masking: Use masking tape or resist materials for areas not to be plated. Post-Plating: Rinse plated parts with clean water. Dry and, if desired, gently polish to enhance brightness. Safety Information Silver electrolytes are chemical solutions and must be handled carefully: Wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing Avoid contact with skin and eyes; rinse immediately if contact occurs Work only in well-ventilated areas Do not ingest; keep out of reach of children Dispose of waste according to local chemical and environmental regulations Silver salts and electrolytes may cause irritation; proper protective measures are essential for safe use. Conclusion The Silver Electrolyte BMG‑103.8 is a reliable and versatile electroplating solution that delivers bright, uniform, and conductive silver layers for both decorative and functional purposes. Its ease of use across tank, brush, and pen/peg plating processes, combined with excellent optical and technical properties, makes it suitable for hobbyists, workshops, and professional plating environments. Aluminum Activator

Aluminium Pretreatment BMG-063.5 Special chemical solution for aluminium surface preparation prior to electroplating Short Description The Aluminium Pretreatment BMG-063.5 is a chemical solution designed for the effective, current-free preparation of aluminium surfaces before subsequent electroplating processes. Aluminium rapidly forms a stable oxide layer when exposed to air, which prevents proper adhesion of electroplated coatings. This pretreatment removes oxide and passive layers, activates the surface, and improves wettability, ensuring reliable adhesion of later metal coatings such as nickel, copper, or gold. Applications The aluminium pretreatment is used for: Removal of oxide and passive layers on aluminium Surface activation prior to electroplating Improved adhesion of subsequent metal coatings Preparation for tank, brush, or pen plating Ensuring uniform, durable electroplated layers Proper pretreatment is essential for achieving high-quality and long-lasting coatings on aluminium. How the Pretreatment Works (Simple Explanation) Aluminium naturally reacts with oxygen and forms a thin but dense oxide film that blocks electroplating. The Aluminium Pretreatment BMG-063.5 uses a chemical activation process to prepare the surface: Cleaning: Aluminium parts are cleaned and degreased. Pretreatment: Parts are immersed in the aluminium pretreatment solution. Activation: The chemical reaction removes oxides and activates the surface. Rinsing: Parts are thoroughly rinsed with water. Plating: The activated surface is now ready for electroplating.
