Product information "White Bronze Mixer – Additive for White Bronze Electroplating"

White Bronze Mixer BMG-117.2 – Additive for White Bronze Electroplating

Additive for Producing Bright White Bronze Coatings

The White Bronze Mixer BMG-117.2 from Betzmann Galvanik is a specially formulated electroplating additive for use with an alkaline copper electrolyte. When combined with a suitable alkaline copper plating solution, it allows you to prepare a White Bronze plating bath for depositing bright, light-coloured bronze coatings on electrically conductive metal surfaces.

White Bronze provides a bright metallic appearance combined with good corrosion, abrasion and chemical resistance. Depending on the application, it can also be used as a nickel-free alternative to conventional nickel coatings.

What Is the White Bronze Mixer?

The White Bronze Mixer is an additive, not a standalone copper electrolyte.

It is added to a suitable alkaline copper plating electrolyte. The combination creates an active plating solution capable of depositing a bright White Bronze alloy onto electrically conductive workpieces.

This makes it possible to adapt an existing suitable alkaline copper system for White Bronze electroplating.

Recommended Mixing Ratio

As a starting formulation, use:

1 part White Bronze Mixer : 1 part alkaline copper electrolyte

Mix both components thoroughly before use.

Depending on the desired colour tone and plating result, other mixing ratios can also be tested.

For new applications, we recommend starting with a small test bath and evaluating the result on a test workpiece before preparing larger quantities.

How to Use the White Bronze Mixer

1. Prepare the alkaline copper electrolyte

Prepare a suitable alkaline copper electrolyte according to its manufacturer's instructions.

2. Add the White Bronze Mixer

Add the White Bronze Mixer gradually to the copper electrolyte.

As a starting formulation, use a 1:1 mixing ratio.

3. Mix thoroughly

Mix the solution thoroughly to ensure that the components are evenly distributed.

4. Electroplate

The prepared solution can then be used to deposit a bright White Bronze coating.

5. Rinse the workpiece

After plating, rinse the workpiece thoroughly with water and dry it carefully.

Suitable for Tank, Pen and Tampon Plating

The White Bronze Mixer can be used for different electroplating processes, including:

  • Tank plating
  • Pen plating
  • Tampon plating
  • Brush plating
  • Selective electroplating
  • Repair plating

This makes the system suitable for both larger components and local plating of small or difficult-to-reach areas.

Applications

White Bronze is particularly suitable for:

  • Decorative metal components
  • Jewellery
  • Accessories
  • Metal fittings
  • Technical components
  • Restoration
  • Repair plating
  • Decorative surfaces
  • Functional coatings
  • Nickel-free coating systems
  • Intermediate or barrier layers before further plating

The bright metallic appearance makes White Bronze especially attractive for decorative applications.

White Bronze as a Nickel Alternative

One of the key advantages of White Bronze is the possibility of producing a nickel-free electroplated surface.

The deposited coating provides a bright metallic appearance together with good resistance to corrosion and wear.

For suitable applications, White Bronze can therefore be an interesting alternative to conventional nickel plating.

Important: Whether White Bronze is suitable as a direct replacement for nickel depends on the specific requirements regarding colour, hardness, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and applicable regulations.

Adjusting the Colour

One advantage of the system is the ability to influence the final colour and coating characteristics through the mixing ratio and process parameters.

In addition to the recommended 1:1 starting ratio, other ratios can be tested for specific colour requirements.

Process parameters such as voltage, temperature, current density and electrolyte movement can also affect the final result.

For repeatable production results, the selected parameters should be kept as consistent as possible.

Application Tip

When preparing a new White Bronze bath, we recommend making a small test batch first.

This allows you to optimize the mixing ratio and plating parameters for your particular workpiece and desired colour before preparing larger quantities.

For decorative applications, always evaluate the result on a test piece first.

Safety Information

When handling the product:

  • Wear suitable protective gloves
  • Wear safety goggles
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing
  • Avoid skin and eye contact
  • Do not inhale vapours or aerosols
  • Work in a well-ventilated area
  • Do not ingest
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Dispose of chemical residues according to applicable regulations

Always consult the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use.

Conclusion

The White Bronze Mixer BMG-117.2 is a versatile additive for producing bright White Bronze plating baths based on an alkaline copper electrolyte.

With a recommended starting ratio of 1:1, it can be used to prepare White Bronze solutions for tank plating, pen plating and tampon/brush plating.

The resulting coatings offer a bright metallic appearance together with good corrosion and wear resistance and can, depending on the application, provide an interesting nickel-free plating alternative.
